The year 2009
The year 2009 started in Beijing, China and ended in San Diego, CA. Somewhere in between I came back to the US, completed my master's degree, took a road trip across the US, moved to San Diego, hunted for jobs, found a few jobs, and made some stuff. Some of that stuff is below...
Dumplings
These are sewn from pre-made felt that I purchased at a calligraphy art supply store in Beijing - the felt is normally used for laying under paper. The container is a typical bamboo steamer used by the restaurants and the general folk here in Beijing - you would normally see them in huge stacks though, with just one lid at the very top.

My First Felt Hat
Here's me in the midst of creating my first felt hat - photo taken by my niece Ellie (soon to be 6 years old).
I don't really understand felt but it is just wonderful to play with.

Ah the miracles of the felting process! I don't know how we did it but Betcie and I created a hat with a brim!
I made this ring for Ashley's birthday - there were structural issues though and it fell apart. I've made a few others that now seem to be good and sturdy - not sure what happened with this one

April 2007 - Monster Shelf
sewn cloth over foam. thin wooden back. needle felted teeth and eyes. 6" deep. approx 12" wide and 17" high.
December 2006
Hand painted rendition of 1940's comic The Green Lama. Painted on white cloth sewn onto black t-shirt.
